Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
Who we are
Thomas Meihofer Jewellery Design (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates a jewellery design studio at 171 Rokeby Rd, Subiaco, Western Australia 6008, and the website at thomasmeihoferjewellery.com.au. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and store it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
What personal information we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our work as a jeweller. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:
- Your name, email address, postal address, and phone number.
- Details of consultations, commissions, repairs, and quotes, including design preferences, ring sizes, and notes about a piece you ask us to make, remodel, or restore.
- Records of items left with us for repair or restoration, and any valuation or insurance documentation you provide.
- Purchase and payment records. Card payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
- Messages you send us through our contact form, by email, by phone, or on social media.
- Technical information collected automatically when you visit our website, such as your browser type, device, approximate location, and the pages you view.
You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym for general enquiries. For a commission, repair, valuation, or purchase, we generally need enough information to identify you and complete the work.
How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- Respond to your enquiries and book consultations.
- Design, quote, make, remodel, repair, and restore jewellery for you, and keep records of work in progress.
- Process payments, issue receipts, and manage warranties and complimentary cleaning for pieces purchased from us.
- Contact you about a commission, an item left for repair, or a piece that is ready for collection.
- Keep our records accurate and meet our legal, tax, and insurance obligations.
- Improve our website and understand how visitors use it.
We will only send you marketing messages, such as news about new collections or studio events, if you have asked to receive them. You can opt out at any time by replying to any such message or by contacting us directly.
Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some cookies are necessary for the site to work; others help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, which set cookies and collect aggregated information about visits, including pages viewed and approximate location. This information is used in a de-identified form and does not normally identify you personally.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. If you block cookies, some parts of the website may not work as intended.
Third parties we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it is necessary to provide our services or meet our legal obligations, for example with:
- Payment processors who handle card transactions securely on our behalf.
- Diamond and gemstone suppliers, casters, and specialist trade partners involved in making or restoring a specific piece for you.
- Couriers and insured carriers when an item needs to be sent or received.
- Our website, hosting, email, and analytics providers, who process information on our behalf.
- Insurers, valuers, and professional advisers where this is needed for a valuation, claim, or to meet our obligations.
- Government bodies, law enforcement, or regulators where we are required or permitted by law.
Where we use third-party service providers, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle your information securely and only for the purpose we have engaged them.
How we store and protect your information
We hold personal information in both secure physical records at our Subiaco studio and in protected electronic systems. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including access controls and secure storage of items and documents left in our care.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, tax, and insurance obligations. When we no longer need it, we take reasonable steps to securely destroy or de-identify it.
Accessing or correcting your information
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. To make a request, please contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge to make a request, although a reasonable cost may apply in some cases for providing access. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will explain why.
Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the matter. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
